Hi all, welcome to my first ever blog. I began writing it for a university assignment when I was studying primary school teaching. When I began I was a complete Web 2.0 novice. I've graduated now but I still find it useful to occasionally discuss and record my ICT 'discoveries' here. I'm doing my best to keep advancing my PC skills because I consider it an essential literacy and skill set to teach children in school. ecks

Week 1

Wow! A mind map! There it is. I'm so pleased this has worked... I have used a program that is new to me, Inspiration 8IE, to create it.

A mindmap is not my favourite way to recieve information - I much prefer extended prose when I'm learning. But, I was recently reintroduced to the usefulness of mind maps by the grade 4/5 class I had on placement (though they drew them with textas on paper).

I think this program is entirely accessible to primary students in the classroom. I can imagine using the projector and typing rather than using the whiteboard for class brainstorms because it is so easy to change things around and to save the image for later reference. It would be good to see students in the driver's seat (typing, organising the diagram) too.

I'm new to this software (and not tech savvy in general) but I found it really easy to use. Even using the print screen button was a revelation to me today. I'm looking forward to overcoming some of my tech limitations in this unit.

This diagram was also created in Inspiration 8IE. It was purely an exploratory activity, and I picked up a few clues about how to use the program. I love the notes function and the way you can flick to a text only view. I can imagine students around grade 4 level using this kind of program in place of a poster to organise project information. I would be interested to know if it is possible to import images, surely it is!
